Homeless Outreach Services

Miami Recovery Project’s Homeless Outreach Program provides direct street based support to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness across Miami Dade County. Our outreach teams meet people where they are on the streets, in encampments, and in other high need areas to build trust, provide immediate support, and connect individuals to housing, healthcare, and recovery services. The program is supported by the Miami Dade Homeless Trust as part of the county’s broader effort to reduce unsheltered homelessness.

Launched in 2022, our outreach program focuses on engaging individuals who may not be connected to traditional service systems. Our team includes case managers and peer specialists with lived experience of homelessness and recovery, allowing us to build authentic relationships and deliver trauma informed, person centered support.

Street Outreach and Engagement

Our Street Outreach Case Managers conduct outreach throughout Miami Dade County, focusing on areas with high concentrations of unsheltered individuals. Through consistent engagement, our team works to establish trust and provide immediate assistance such as:

  • Connection to emergency shelter and housing programs

  • Transportation to services and appointments

  • Access to detox and substance use treatment programs

  • Referrals for mental health care and medical services

  • Assistance obtaining identification and vital documents

We work closely with shelter providers throughout Miami Dade County including Camillus House, Miami Rescue Mission, Lotus House, The Salvation Army, Chapman Partnership, and Mia Casa. Through these partnerships, we connect individuals to emergency shelter, supportive services, and coordinated care that help address immediate needs while supporting their transition toward long term stability and housing.

Housing and Stabilization

Our outreach program follows a Housing First approach, prioritizing rapid access to safe and stable housing without unnecessary barriers. Case managers assist clients in becoming document ready by helping them obtain identification, Social Security cards, birth certificates, and other required documents for housing applications.

Once individuals are prepared, we coordinate with the Miami Dade Continuum of Care and local housing providers to connect clients with shelter, rapid rehousing, and permanent supportive housing opportunities.

Comprehensive Support Services

In addition to housing placement, our program connects individuals to services that support long term stability and recovery, including:

  • Medicaid and healthcare enrollment

  • Food assistance and public benefits

  • Employment and workforce programs

  • Mental health and substance use treatment services

  • Dental care and primary health services

We work closely with community partners including New Directions, Gang Alternative, Inc., Community Smiles, Transitions, the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), and other organizations within the Thriving Mind network. We also collaborate with leading Miami Dade service providers such as Carrfour Supportive Housing, Pridelines, and other community based agencies to ensure clients receive coordinated care and access to the resources they need. These partnerships allow us to connect individuals to behavioral health treatment, healthcare services, supportive housing, and other essential resources that support long term stability.

Ongoing Case Management

Our support continues even after individuals enter shelter or housing. Case managers provide follow up services that help clients maintain stability and rebuild independence, including budgeting assistance, transportation support, healthcare navigation, peer support that promotes job readiness, and connections to recovery resources. These services are designed to help individuals build the skills and confidence needed to move toward employment and long term self sufficiency.

Through compassionate outreach, strong partnerships, and a commitment to meeting people where they are, Miami Recovery Project works to reduce unsheltered homelessness and support individuals on their path toward permanent housing, recovery, and greater independence.
